The landscapes Ronald Versloot (1964, Apeldoorn, NL ) takes us to in his
paintings are hushed, strange, atmospheric, with an anxiety the source
of which is difficult to pin down. Versloot is intreagued by the way our
inner thoughts are made up from images and things outside of ourselves,
how we take them in and convert them into the settings for our
fantasies. His landscapes are inner landscapes: inner versions of things
exterior. His theme is that a painting technique need not be mysterious
in order that its subject matter be.
Versloot studied at the Koninklijke Akademie voor Kunst en Vormgeving in
Den Bosch and at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam. He had solo
exhibitions at GAD Galleri, Oslo (2011), Galerie Andreas Brüning,
Düsseldorf (2006) and several times at AKINCI, Amsterdam, Maurits van
der Laar, The Hague.Versloot participated in group shows at the Freies
Museum, Berlin (2011), Kunsthal 52, Den Helder (2009),
Hofvijverexpositie, Den Haag (2002), Boijmans van Beuningen, ROtterdam
(1996), Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam (1996), Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven
(1996).
